Regardless of your dog’s age, Potty Training is pretty much the same across the board!

Two rules cover it:
1) Make sure your dog or puppy has plenty of appropriately timed opportunities to eliminate in the right place. Practice makes perfect!
2) Closely supervise or confine your dog or puppy in between toilet outings, so he/she doesn’t have the chance to eliminate in the wrong place.

Fluffy Just..

When I’m potty training, I tell people to live by the Fluffy Just Rules!

  • Fluffy just ate… she needs to potty
  • Fluffy just woke up… she needs to potty.
  • Fluffy just drank water… she needs to potty.
  • Fluffy just played… she needs to potty

Basically, at least for the first few weeks, anytime your new puppy or adult dog does ANYTHING, take them out to potty! This prevents any accidents in the house, and helps you better understand their routines and needs.

When your dog potties outside, give them 3 really good treats. We want pottying outside to be SO REWARDING they wouldn’t dream of doing it anywhere else!

If they make a mistake, don’t punish them. Just clean it up and promise you’ll watch more closely next time. Dog’s can’t learn from something that happened even 5 minutes ago, so punishing potty accidents is a waste of your energy anyway!
