Our friends at High Country Host in Boone, NC have been working overtime to keep everyone in the loop about what trails, pathways, parks, and waterfalls are open post-Helene. We are so grateful for all they have done!

Brody and I wanted to share part of their update with you, and add our own favorites as well!
Boone Area Waterfalls:
- Crab Orchard Falls, 1.5 Miles | Valle Crucis, NC
- This hike is short, but it does have steep sections. Luckily, it is well maintained! Park at the Valle Crucis Conference Center and follow the signs to enjoy this hike.
- Perfect for people and dogs who don’t mind some steep hills.
- Just 15 minutes from Boone, NC and 15 minutes from Banner Elk, NC!
- 146 Skiles Way, Banner Elk, NC 28604
- Otter Falls, 0.6 Miles | Seven Devils, NC
- This park JUST reopened this month! As of writing this post, the Red Trail is still closed. Otter Falls is a gentle hike that features plenty of benches along the pathway and a stunning waterfall at the end.
- Perfect for small dogs, older dogs, or dogs and people that want the views without a lot of strenuous activity.
- 25 minutes from Boone, NC and 18 minutes from Banner Elk, NC
- 825 Skyland Dr, Seven Devils, NC 28604
- Glen Burney Falls Trail 2.4-3.2 miles | Blowing Rock, NC
- This trail features 3 different waterfalls! It starts out easy, but does include some steep, rocky sections. The trail is well marked and easy to navigate.
- Perfect for adventurous dogs and their people.
- 20 minutes from Boone, NC and 35-45 minutes from Banner Elk, NC (depening on your route)
Blue Ridge Parkway Hikes
The Blue Ridge Parkway has two sections open in the High Country! (1- SOUTH) Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk area; mileposts 285.5-305.1. The main access point is the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance off Hwy 321S between Boone and Blowing Rock. (2- NORTH) Sparta area; mileposts 244.7-238.5. The main access point is the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance off US Hwy 21.
