Group obedience classes
Classes are held at the NEWLAND campus of Mayland Community College.
Simple – Fun – Effective
At Positive Partners Dog Training, our goal is always to make your training experience as simple, fun, and effective as possible.
Group classes are a great way to teach your dog basic obedience skills AND how to pay attention around distractions in a safe and controlled environment.
Small class size ensures you’ll still get personalized attention each night of class.
Group classes begin with you filling out an application to join classes. Group classes aren’t always the best fit for every dog, so we want to make sure you get the most out of your training time with us! If you and your dog aren’t a good fit for class, we’ll get you on the calendar for private lessons!
Aside from Reactive Dog Bootcamp, group classes are only appropriate for friendly dogs who are not afraid of or aggressive towards dogs and people.
The learning begins before you enter the classroom! You’ll complete an online orientation at your convenience before the first night of class. You can go back and re-watch at any time for a refresher! Each night of class will cover just 4 main skills with ample time to practice and receive coaching from your instructor.
We’ll begin and end each week’s lesson with discussion time – what were your successes? What can you improve on? The support doesn’t stop there, though! You’ll get free email and Facebook Group support for the lifetime of your dog, and discounts on future training!
In addition to offering obedience classes for puppies and adults, Positive Partners Dog Training, LLC is also happy to offer:
- Classes and testing for ALL AKC Certificates (Canine Good Citizen, Community Canine, Urban Canine, STAR Puppy, Trick Dog)

Is my dog a good fit for group classes?
Not all dogs do well in group class! Even through my classes are small, some dogs still find them overwhelming, too exciting, or even too scary!
For now, all my classes are held outdoors at Valle Crucis park. Some dogs find this pretty distracting, and may need private lessons before they can begin group classes to help them learn to focus.
Some dogs who are a little worried about people and dogs may find group classes to be a safe space to grow in their confidence, while others may be too afraid to think.
Unless otherwise specified, group classes are not open to dogs who are aggressive towards other dogs. Group classes are not open to dogs who have a bite history with humans.
If you are worried your dog is too exciteable, fearful, or reactive for class, please email me! We can set up a time to talk on the phone or meet before class to help you find the best fit for your dog.
